Saturday, January 28, 2012 “Bale Out” Training Saturday Jan 28th Five Marcellus Fire Department members received training in the use of the new state mandated “bale out” equipment. In response to loss of firefighters’ lives New York State has now mandated that all interior fire fighters be equipped with specialized equipment to allow them to self-rescue by a rope assisted exit from a window up to 50 feet from the ground. MFD firefighters Jeff Berwald, Joel McNally, David Card, Jeff Isgar and Patrick Rothery spent the day learning and then practicing techniques that they will now pass on to our other members.

Saturday, September 24, 2011 At the request of the owner, the MFD staged a practice burn today of a disused barn in the Rose Hill area. Engines #1 and #2 were deployed to monitor the burn. As the fire took hold of their Woodpile home Mr. and Mrs. Rock E. Raccoon were seen to run from the blaze. They escaped wearing only the furs that they had on at the time. Though their home was a total loss they have now taken up residence in a nearby hedge row and are recovering well.
